Mastering the wrong job!

Gentleman and Ladies, elected officials of the United States, You have gotten so good at mastering the wrong job. You have learned the importance of the sound bite. You know how to capture the lens of the camera at just the right moment. You have the skill set-DOWN with regard to creating hyperbole in the conversation. But you have mastered the wrong job. You are elected officials of a nation-state. You are not charged with saving your party. When students learn geography there is not a D or R anywhere on the globe. And when students study world history, there is not a category for the world of Democrat or Republican. However, students do take a class to learn the history of the United States. See you have forgotten but D and R are subsets of the United States. Your job, the job you are taking a pay check for every day, every week, every month, every year is to advance the interests of the United States and to work together so as to accomplish governmental tasks that secure the lives of the citizens of the United States. Your job does not come with a clause that says, "Only if you like one another." Your election campaign did not include, "I will only do my job if I like the president." And the people of the United States who elected you did not give you an op- out clause that includes, "You can pick and choose those objectives that best serve your re-election campaign." Oh, most of you have become very good at the wrong job. Most of you are working on a reality show, for the television cameras and the radio pundits. Most of you are working to get picked up for the next season so as to secure your paycheck and remain in front of the camera. It's the wrong job. Reality shows are laughable. You are making the work of running a nation state laughable. Get back to your real job. Being an elected official is not a reality show.
